Why Isn't Animal Abuse Legal?

Not that I'd want to hurt an animal, but it really makes no sense. If you breed and coop an animal up in an abusive, poop-drenched enviornment with the intent of killing it and selling the corpse for eating, it's completely ethical. But yelling at a dog is evil. Animals that we test shampoos on get treatment a hundred times better than farm animals. Really, their life sucks. And no one cares, 'cause they taste good. The amount of vegetarians and vegans don't hardly make a dent. So why can't other animals be treated just as poorly?

I like animals, but seriously this makes NO sense.

Your looking for consistency in human behavior and you won’t find any.
In France they eat horses and in China they eat dogs but the noble Americans and British stick to the bullock and the chicken.
Do not forget that animals often eat each other and we are animals. Nature is red in tooth and claw. Breeding huge numbers of cattle for the meat trade means large amounts of methane released into the earths atmosphere. Methane is a far more dangerous
    greenhouse gas than carbon dioxide.

Perhaps they did not want to waste the protein in dead flesh. Sometimes in dire situations humans have eaten there dead companions to survive. Survival is our most important characteristic , hence at the moment we are top-dogs. The rat is waiting in the wings.

In theory that cooped up critter is being treated humanely as it’s fattened up & then slaughtered in a humane manner. Beating a dog is simply inhumane, beating a pet pig or chicken is inhumane & in fact people have gotten in serious trouble for being inhumane to cattle in the slaughterhouse, minutes from death. “In theory that cooped up critter is being treated humanely….”

The human has the problem of the conscience , he wants steak on the plate without cruelty but to live is to attack the environment. Hunter gatherers perhaps are the kindest because the prey stands a chance of escape.
We no longer have factory farmed eggs in the UK free range is the public cry , but shrewd farmers will get round it when moneys to be made.

The core question remains the same, “why?” Because we’ve justified the concept of humane to suit our wants & needs.
The guillotine is without a doubt the most humane & economical means of execution, but it offends us with the blood… so we call a nasty hot needle humane, gassing… humane, electrocution. Humane, I think we need to revisit the guillotine with a plasma blade. It’s not as cheap as the original, but it might be bloodless.

But you have answered for yourself ’ to suit our wants and needs’ , but the tiger needs no excuse it has no conscience.

Crazy old dude, how do you know that the tiger has no conscience!?

I did answer for myself, I answered it from the beginning. I have no confusion about the why at all.

The most inhumane treatment of animals that everyone ignores is the dairy industry. BTW – you pose this animal abuse question to a country that has been continuously at war for 10-years plus! People ain’t rocks.

Human supremacy gives you no choice but you can get someone else to do it for you so you can enjoy a conscience free lifestyle.

Let me be clear you do not chose all your actions many are performed on your behalf. Just suppose we had to kill our own chickens or pigs. Much of the seamy side of life is seen only by the few.

Crazy old dude, of course I choose all of My actions, otherwise they are not My actions!
..and I have killed My own chickens, pigs, rabbits, etc…

How did you kill your pigs?

Read Jude the Obscure by Thomas Hardy chapter 10 the killing of the pig , its grim but factual.

When I buy a chicken in the supermarket I condone the killing of that animal. So many actions are made by others on my behalf.
When Donald Trump signs an immigration order he does not turn people away at the border.
I take your word that you have killed chickens , pigs and rabbits but in that respect you are the exception not the rule. We are carried on the tide of civilisation most things are done for us.
